I believe that this year model was introduced to evade the new higher export tax levy introduced by the Japan Government due to the explosion in the sales of Harley Davidson in the cruiser market. The tax was introduced to bikes that came in over 701cc so Honda did some mods to their already highly regarded VT750 Shadow and introduced some new tech along with relocating the forward controls and changing the seat ride position to give a more comfortable laid back cruising position in which I can personally vouch for.
This particular bike seem to be a bit of a custom bike as the mufflers were from the 700C that was only released for the U.S the front single braking system was more common on the 85 model and the chrome side covers have the "Shadow" written in grey/silver and if I am not mistaken this year model should be written in gold.
And that is about as much as I can give on the bike and model history :)
