Hey all, I'm working on installing the head covers on my '97 VT1100 and I'm looking for some clarification on something in the shop manual.

The manual says that, after installing the cylinder head covers, you need to "check that the slots in the exhaust and intake rocker arm shafts are within the limits shown(both intake rocker arm shafts should fall within the same limits) - nevermind that the left hand intake rocker arm shaft is behind the cam shaft gear now and can't be seen. Go figure.

It continues by saying "If not, repeat the preceding step and recheck."

What "preceding step is it talking about? Rotating the crankshaft?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I tried to upload a photo of the page in the shop manual I'm talking about but I'm on my phone and the picture's probably too big...

I haven't had my hands on those but I am guessing that you could flip(rotate) the shafts and have the slots downward. They must be up . If that is where the assist shafts sit, that makes sense for them to work.
