2001 VT750CD Tripmeter/Odometer Button

Hello,

The tripmeter/odometer button (one on the bottom left of the speedo) on my 2001 750 ACE has stopped working. I can push and I feel the feedback, but the display does not switch from ODO to TRIP like it is supposed to.

Do I need to take the speedo off to check connections? Is it a common enough problem?
If I need to replace the button, does anyone know the part number?

Thanks!

Not much to be done with those. Honda considered them a ‘replace assembly’ part. There are ways to get them apart, usually to clean or replace the LCD cover. Since you’re getting tactile feedback from the button, chances are it’s a cold/broken solder connection on the board.

Thanks for the reply. If it's a solder joint, then it should be an easy fix for me.
Any particularly good sources to see how to take the assembly apart in a way that I can put it back together or is it relatively straightforward?
The rubber button in the chrome speedometer surround on top of the tank?
IIRC is is momentary on switch and people have replaced them with various common parts from computer reset buttons to marine rated switches and soldered them in.
AFAIK the whole meter wire harness is what Honda expected to sell you, except it is no longer available anyway.

Edit: On the 0 to 10 scale it is a 2 for difficulty Allen wrench for bolts, unplug some wires and be creative.
