2002 shadow saber fuel isue

Greetings all,
New to this forum. My saber is having a fuel issue. I believe it is the fuel relay, but before spending the 60 bucks on a new one, I thought I would see if anyone has a meted to test the relay to be sure. I followed the steps in Clymer manual but I am still not confident. Symptoms are bike randomly dies like running out of fuel have jumped the fuel pump and it seems to be working fine. I am nervous about leaving jumped full time. any input would be greatly appreciated.
