On edit: move to this thread.

We need to QUICKLY make a choice of location and hotel; we're competing with the Autumn Leaves Festival during the weekend of October 7th through 10th. No deals available.

Holiday Inn Express Mount Airy does have enough rooms available but they come in 4 different "flavors":
o standard (4 currently available) @ $104 on the 7th and $125/night for the 8th & 9th
o king exec (4 currently available) @ $114 and up on the 7th and $134 and up on the 8th and 9th
o suites with pull-out sofa bed at $125 for the 7th and $145 for the 8th and 9th (availability = 5 with queen beds and 7 with king beds)

Hampton Inn Mount Airy has 18 rooms available, all with king beds.
o $129/night for 6 (currently available) standard rooms
o $139/night for 12 (currently available) rooms with refrigerator & microwave

Unless someone stops me, I'll be picking one by 4PM EDT today and locking us in; I'm leaning toward the HIE. I'll PM everyone in the two following lists to give you a chance to get a post in here ASAP.

Do not hesitate to forward this on to anyone you think will be participating.

Room count that I've got (in no particular order):
1. me and my wife (arriving on the 7th)
2. Paulie
3. Sadie43
5. rickbb*
4. C Nile*
5. the babbster*
6. violette*
7. docc30 (and Krystal?)
8. Dr. Bob's Patient?
9. Denisep? and Dave?
10. vito and daughter? (added on edit)
* might be sharing a room

Others who have asked:
o juggle-early
o Labswine
o White Knight
o RadioDanNYC
o toyfarm
o vtxrob
o Surface ET (added on edit)

----------------------
Expanding the search: Other nearby (within 30 miles) hotels are not showing 8 rooms available in online searches -- but the HIE didn't either so I don't know if that's reliable.
o Quality Inn Mount Airy shows only 5 rooms available.
o Quality Inn Pilot Mountain shows 1 room available.
o HIE Hillsville and Elkins both show less than 8 available.

Paulie is going to be there and has no official opinion about the hotel. I'll be happy with the group decision.

I will be there and the HIE sounds fine with me. I am trying to get my wife to come to this thing in the car so she can meet you reprobates. She can visit some friends we have in the area while we ride and spend the evenings with the group. If she decides not to come then I can share a room with someone. I will know for sure what she plans to do as we get closer to the date.

PMs are out. My PC wants to reboot so I'm moving onto the next issue for a while. I'll check back.

Hey, I resent that! I've worked hard at earning my reprobate status and here you just give the title away to folks who hardly qualify. That's unfair!

I kept thinking there was some thing or another in Mt. Airy then, but my memory failed me yet again.

Any one is fine with me, (esp since I'm late to the party with my vote).

The Holiday Inn is out; I've spent an hour playing phone tag with the person who makes group arrangements. When I finally got to speak with here, she told me there are no rooms available -- which contradicts info from the woman at the front desk but I'm too irritated to argue about it.

The person who schedules groups at the Hampton (Dawn) is gone for the day; I'll call her in the morning. She is the one who told me that there were 18 rooms available as of noon today.

As of right now, we've got 5 rooms confirmed (posts above) and 10 folks who haven't seen my PMs yet. I'll spend some time checking out alternate locations tonight just in case Dawn disappoints tomorrow.

Hey, you're only about 30 miles from Hanging Rock State Park -- you don't make it to the rally and you might just have bunch of bikers drop by to make sure you don't forget about us.

Just stay on sick leave until after the ECR. You work for an insurance company, you should have good benefits.

I'm in as long as I can get some sort of room sharing arrangement with someone. I've had a few things come up, and money is a bit tighter than usual.

I'm happy to sleep on a couch or pull out in one of the suites, or go two to a standard 2 double beds room. I even wouldn't mind chipping in and being the third in a room on a cot.

The other difficulty that I'm having is that there is some slight (but non-zero) probability that I may be forced to work that weekend, but won't know until early to mid September. This is the other reason I'd like to share a room, as if I have to back out, I can afford to still pay my share of a room, but paying for a whole room at that point would be depressing.

If this is too difficult to work into the arrangements, I fully understand, and I can change my status for the rally to "game time decision" based on hotel/motel availability at that point.

Mike you should pm Labswine or visa versa and set up to share a room.

This might seem like it's coming out of left field but I've got us scheduled for Hillsville, VA -- about 25 miles north of Mount Airy. The MAJOR reason for that selection was availability of rooms, particularly ones with 2 beds for folks who need to share. The place is 9 miles north of the Blue Ridge Parkway and easily within range of the rides that rickbb is thinking about. We can put together several other good ones from this location, too.

Info moved to this thread.

At this point in time, I afraid I am going to miss this year

I just took 7 days off from work that I didn't have vacation for in the first place (family matter) and I may end up changing jobs once again! That coupled with the fact that it's a 360 mile ride to Hillsville, VA from my house on a 1981 Kaw Z440 with no windshield (it's still a very fun little bike!). My longest ride to date on it is 100 miles and I'm not sure I can endure 360 miles in one day on it!

That being said, if anyone from Florida needs a stop overpoint I'd be happy to keep alight on for ya!

Labswine and I are already sharing a room. I booked it this morning.

Thanks 8)

Those proposed rides look great too. I'm looking forward to the rally.

I blame all this on that rolling couch you used to own.

I hope that the situation will change along with your mind and that you will be able to attend.
