I'm breaking in a new Shadow RS. At 150 miles it became difficult to shift into 5th gear and it wasn't like that until then. At 200 miles, still a tricky shift. If I shift at 45 it's fine, but below that it's difficult. The manual says shift 4th to 5th at 31mph. Anybody?

Every bike I have ridden has a different shift feel, some silky, some with a double click going to 5th, some you have to bang on to downshift, etc.

5th at 31 sounds waaaaay low - mine bucks and lugs at 35. I shift to 5th no slower than 40, 45-50 is better. Not familiar with your bike model, tho'.

hmmm...5th at 31mph? I'm barely (if even...) out of 2nd at that speed...

I NEVER hit 5th gear below 45mph. It makes my Spirit 1100 unhappy-and every other bike I've owned (with the exception of a 450 Suzuki 6 speed that I owned a long way back) was the same way.

Not sure how your RS feels doing that but I can't imagine it feels good.

I wouldn't suggest you disregard the manual, but....
