Hi and thanks for reading,

Looking @ THIS '83 VT750 w/10K miles (seems low for an '83). Bike ran all last summer....supposedly.

Owner states it 'needs piston replaced'. He has the parts but no time. Asking $750. I'd buy it for $500 IF I can actually fix it.

Per the multiple threads on here and elsewhere some/many/most of the parts from the '80's are Discontinued by Honda, so getting this fixed may not be easy or even possible.

Looks like an '83-'86 engine will swap in - didn't see much on Ebait.

Is it worth saving or will I likely be struggling to keep it running if something else goes wrong? I don't want to be 'nickled and dimed' to death.

I'm no mechanic, just do my own maintenance and have rebuilt carbs (successfully!) on a 1990 Kawasaki EX500 and an old Johnson outboard engine.

Is the Clymer or Honda - or another - Shop Manual the way to go?

Thanks for your time,
Td

Run away from that bike. It's the hidden stuff that you don't know about that will get you in the wallet. Plus, you will eventually need parts that are made out of cannotfindium

What these guys said!^^ It's a parts bike and to try to make it different may cost you more than a newer bike in better shape. I'd keep looking.
