85 shadow 1100c overheating issue

I have an 85 shadow 1100c that i purchased as a basket case sometime ago. The fan switch that was in it I thought was bad was actually to hot. (temp gauge would go into the red but fan would not turn on) I purchased an 85° fan switch and it worked fine. (kind of) The gauge runs at about 1/3 when I'm test riding it but if I stop or its really warm out the gauge goes to about 2/3 & starts to run rough. After the fan comes on it starts to cool down to 1/3 & runs fine again.

I have installed a new thermastat, flushed the system (twice) & bled/burped the air.

This is the 1st water cooled bike I have ever owned but I'm thinking I need a cooler switch but have not been able to find one.

Any suggestions on a source for a cooler switch or advice on water cooled bikes would be appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure the radiator is completely full when it cools down and the overflow tank about 1/2 full, and the radiator cap seals are in very good condition.
Ride it till warm and shut off and feel the radiator fins top to bottom and across to see if there any cold spots.

Thank you. I'll do that today. Can I assume that the temp guage should remain fairly constant?

Something I completly forgot about untill this am. The orginal fan problem was that motor had no current. After checking the obvious stuff (fuse) & tracing wires I finally just ran a new wire to the fan connector in order to get the fan running. (after grounding the fan switch) It was after that I finally replaced the fan switch with a cooler one which is where I am today. One other thing, there was/is a rocker switch on the plastic tank cover that goes down the middle. This thing was in pieces when I bought it & had been sitting since 2015. I just assumend this switch was for accessory lighting or something. That said, the wire on this switch was just the rite length to tie into that non working fan connector.

The person I bought this from is the one who parked it & took it apart back in 2015. He claimend to have never got it running properly & only tried riding it for a few months. From the silver paint on the polished engine covers & rusty chrome to the spray can black paint & the flames on the tank I'm sure this thing has been owned by several weekend mechanics.
