This might be an incredibly stupid question (and don't say there isn't such a thing!), but does the 1985 Shadow VT500 even have an oil filter? I'm going to go buy some 10W-40 for it tomorrow and was going to buy a new oil filter while I was at it, but my dad said that it doesn't have one. None of the bikes he's ever ridden (mostly in the 70's and 80's) had oil filters, but it just doesn't seem practical or reasonable to not have one. Does it have one, or am I just fooling myself?

My 85 vt1100 has it's filter under the engine.

read the oil sticky. it is under the engine just behind the foot pegs. looks like a standard small car oil filter. check out this thread
