Hey Guys,

I am new here and have had a problem starting my bike for a while now. My 99 750 will not start with the choke pulled out. It does start eventually and it idles great once it is running but it is just a dog to start. I have taken it to a local Honda dealership for the problem and they tore the carbs apart checked the jets and cleaned the carbs twice. The shop was even stumped. I was hoping that maybe someone on this forum could help me.

The choke on our Shadows is better described as a fuel enrichment jet. The extra shot of fuel depends on suction from the piston vacuum, and this suction only occurs when the throttle is full closed. If you have a habit of giving it some gas to start, then this could defeat the choke.

Assuming that is not the case, then either the choke is not working, or it is providing too much fuel and snuffing the spark. After trying to start with the choke, pull a plug and check if it is wet with gas? Good luck.
