Thanks guys! We were joking that when I got the bike, someone said, "well, someone's prolly just gonna make a bobber out of it!"

I mentioned that I didn't consider this a "bobber" in the true sense of the word, then bro-in-law says, "Sure looks like one, just needs a yella gas cap! " we ALL got a good laugh out of that.

Aced,
I was going to go with a 1/4 inch gray stripe, but couldn't find one. All I could locate locally was CHROME! This is what I'm going for anyways.

NO! Paint it. Mask it and paint it. Then clear over it.

Well, it's cleared. But without the striping. We tried both the chrome and the silver and neither one would adhere like we wanted. I figured that even if we had to stripe it after the fact, it would be better than having a ticking timebomb under the clear. There's a guy at the local bike night that does pretty good striping. I might just have him do it when we're there.

We'll see.

So far as the clear goes, this is some pretty weird stuff. It worked okay without thinning, but it dried FAST! Waiting for it to dry and then there will be some sanding and buffing. Then, we put it together!!! :D

Got some more time in on the ol' ACE. Turns out that it rained most of the night, so I had to get some work in between showers. But, I got the fenders and tank installed. Doesn't look too bad!

Will have to figure something else out for stripes. They started to buckle overnight, so we'll go another route. Anyways, here's a few pix to show progress.
Looks a little different than your average Shadow ACE, no?

Here's what it started out like.

Wow! That turned out VERY nice!

I really like the front-mounted horn, too.

Gotta ask, is the red velvet seat still "drying out"?

Thanks guys! Glad you like it. Just got back from a bike night with it and some folks definitely got it for what it is, a fun ride! For painting outside, the paint really turned out pretty good. Some sanding of the little critters' sneakers once we plucked their carcasses and smoothing out the surface and it buffed up pretty nice. Spoke with someone about painting the separation stripe on it. Probably next week for that.

Otherwise, it's pretty well done. Now to put some more miles on it! And JWinker, that seat got re-skinned but not used back when it had the stock fender on it. Now it sits in the shed. I use it as a humidifier. LOL!

Finally!

Wanted to do something with the separation of the two colors. Got an estimate to do hand pin-striping. The guy wanted $160 to separate the two colors.

Not REALLY what I wanted, so I started looking for some lickem'-stick'em chrome that would look more like what I wanted. I found this and got it installed the other day. I like the way it turned out, although it doesn't show too much in the photos. It's not perfect, but neither is the guy who did the work! Hope ya like it!

Now, I think the bike is completed, unless something really special comes along. Now it's time to simply enjoy riding it!

You got a really good touch. Anybody follow you around to try and figure out what it is yet ?
Two stories, one funny, but both TRUE!

I was riding with my brother in law and we passed a guy riding a cool-looking older H-D. We waved as we passed him. When we got part way through town, he had worked his way up through traffic to get beside me at the light. I noted his bike and said, "Nice bike!"

He looked at mine, then me, then the bike, and NEVER said a word. He didn't know what to say! Probably went to one of "his" forums and talked about the "poser" he met. :grin2:

Another time, I was riding along and a truck pulled up beside me and the guy rolls his window down and says, "Nice ACE!" Or, at least I THINK that's what he said! LOL!
(I was surprised he knew exactly what it was.)
