Alright guys my bike has been running good recently but now i start it today and it is back to trying to stall at 2000-3000rpms.

If I pull the air filter and give a quick burst of carb cleaner into the air box it will run perfect for a couple of minutes, I mean wide open to idle and back never misses a beat.

But then it starts running the same again.

Could this be from an intake boot making it run really lean or something?

Just curious, when you say 'back to trying', does that mean this is an old problem that has reoccurred? What was done the first time to resolve it? What work has been done to the fuel system/carbs since you got it?

When I got the bike about a week ago it would start and idle fine, some popping here and there. But as soon as you gave it any throttle at all it would die.

I pulled the gas tank and carb and cleaned the carbs really good and blew through every orifice in the carb.

Gas tank looked as if it had been setting outside in a field and open so it had dirt jellied gas and sludge in the bottom. I emptied it and put a couple gallons of gas and shook it up to clean it out, did this a couple times and then the same with distilled water until it was clean as a whistle.

Blew through and cleaned petcock and screen and made sure all fuel lines were clean.

Put it all back together and started it up it idled smooth and would throttle to 2000-2500 rpms but then would bog and stall if I didn't release throttle.

Pulled carb and found piece of junk partially blocking a jet the reinstalled it again and ran good except a hesitation at around 5000rpm but then would catch and run good.

Now it bogs and dies at 2000-3000 rpm like stated above

Try a fuel filter first. It sounds like you are still getting trash throw into the carb, so if the filter doesn't help you're most likely in for another cleaning. It's a common issue with bikes that sit around unused for years. Replace the fuel lines too. You'll get it.

Will get a filter and new fuel lines tomarrow. Why would it run good with a few sprays of carb cleaner then go back to running poorly
Because it's fuel starved once it's burned up the carb cleaner. Time for another cleaning of the jets. Like Harry mentioned, you may have to do it a few times to get all the crap out. And when you open up the carbs, make sure you do it in a clean space. It doesn't take much of a piece of debris to plug a jet. Keep at it.

That's what I figured. Yea I'll pull them tomarrow and clean them, gonna look into some new boots for the carb to intake and carb to engine the ones that are there are hard and difficult. Lucky I happen to have the time off to work on this. Got lucky and couldn't move my rig cause of the weather! Enjoying some time off

You could have a vacuum leak of some sort going on. If the carb boot isn't tight enough,or has a hole in it, you can have all sorts of problems. Also gaskets on the carb, hole in the diaphragm. I think you get it.

I just wanted to thank everyone that chimed in and helped me get my bike running so far. Finally had a chance to clean the carb again, new fuel lines, and installed an inline fuel filter and now the bike runs PERFECT! Just need to go through the drum brakes in rear (the hang up when pedal is depressed) and figure out what part I need to hook up to the coolant reservoir and it's ready to go
