Hi,

I'd like to get better aftermarket wires and plugs for my 2001
ACE. Nologic makes a set for an Aero - but I'm not sure
whether Aero's have 1 or 2 plugs per cylinder.

Anybody have recommendations for upgrading my spark
plugs and wires?

For me, the OEM spark plugs work best. I tried other brands, but I had increased popping. Once I went back to OEM plugs, no problems....

All Aeros ahve 2 plugs per cylinder.....

Recommendations for upgrading? No.
Upgrading the plug wires will do nothing for you. You can get bigger core
wires that can carry higher voltage, but for the stock system, it will do
nothing for you. The stock wires are high quality wires.

As far as plugs. There is no "upgrade" for plugs. You should run
the correct heat range and plug type for what the engine calls for...
Platinum and Iridium plugs will gain you some extra life from the plug,
but not performance.
Stick with the NGK plugs. They are the best plug for the stock application.
Upgrade to Iridium, if you wish, for longevity.

If you are replacing old plug wires and want to go with aftermarket ones
just because you don't want the factory ones, they'll work, but just
be aware there is no 'enhancement' for running aftermarket wires.

The "better" wires will show some benefit if you are planning on
running a hotter ignition system in the future (again, pretty much pointless
unless you are doing some other mods)..
The aftermarket wires are not 'better' wires. They are just designed for
a different purpose. Mostly to make money from people who think they'll
gain lots of power from using them.

Aftermarket wires that people think are better are not in fact better wires.
They have a thicker core which allows them to handle higher voltages
from hotter ignition systems. Using bigger wires can actually reduce
the ignition systems performance.

I once put some "high performance" wires on my truck. I didn't need new wires, just wanted to replace them. Didn't see any performance gains or anything, but it ran well. About a year later it started running rough. I checked my plugs, fuel filter, air filter, etc. Didn't even think about the plug wires because they were only a year old and they were "high performance." I finally took it to the shop and paid around $100 to have my high performance plug wires replaced with OEM wires (labor + wires). That was about 8 years ago and although the truck has been retired to only occasional use, it still runs great on the OEM wires.

Lessons learned: ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS replace with OEM parts and if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I agree, if you're going to overhaul the entire ignition system then thats the only time you should get aftermarket wires. a single better part will most likely 99% of the time never give any gain for what you pay extra for it...
I threw a complete aftermarket ignition setup on my old wrangler because a lot of the old stuff was failing.... and I really like how the engine runs with everything now, but thats cause I replaced everything from the ignition box... to the plugs & everything inbetween.
