Recently I bought a 1986 honda shadow vt1100. When I bought it I rode it for 10 mins or so it had the choke on so it wasn't popping all that bad but now that I've got the bike home it pops pretty loud from a set of homemade pipes the owner before me put on. I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere to get the original exhaust or possibly a new universal one for the bike. Or any suggestions at all would be helpful. Thanks.

You can check the For Sale section of this website, but likely you're going to have to get them from a salvage yard. Beware, stock exhaust *can* be very expensive for what you get.

You could replace them with Vance & Hines, Cobra, or 15 other aftermarket exhaust setups. To eliminate the popping, you're going to need to richen the carb(s). This is pretty easy and outlined for basically every type of bike somewhere on this forum. You could probably even get the homemade pipes to stop popping by adjusting the A/F mix.

Adjusting the a/f screws may help. But then again if the PO cobble f***** the exhaust system, who knows what he did to the rest of the bike. Only way to know for sure is to try it.

When you say homemade pipes....no part of your exhaust system is stock? There are a few options depending on what was done. Can you post a pic? As an example, if you just needed mufflers you could go with something like this ... 1985 1986 Honda Shadow VT1100C Mufflers | eBay

It pops now with or without the choke on or does it not matter?

A buddy of mine made a couple changes to his bike and thought he was going to need to do some work on his carb. or tinker with some other things.
I was working on my bike and using his as a reference when we noticed one of his pipes had just come a little loose. Tightened it up and now it's fine.
