I have been looking for a vlx 600 for a while now, and cant seem to have luck. I am curious as to what sources you guy uses to look for bikes. I have found a few, but they sold before I could get to them. I look on craigslist, cycletrader, paper. is there any other places i should lookl. where do you guys find the deals. thanks in advance for replys

Is there any reason you are set on the VLX? the 750 shadows are very nice too... also, there are other bikes besides shadows to look at. Suzuki makes the Intruder 800 (called S50 now) and its a nice small bike, not much bigger than the VLX.

The three I frequent -

cycletrader.com
craigslist.org
ebay.com

I figure if I can't find one locally I can always fly out and ride it back - flights to some destinations are just not that expensive, if you find the right bike at the right price.

I looked for a VLX for my wife since September and found very few. Winter before last they were all over the place. We ended up buying a V-Star 650 a few weeks back instead.

I know someone selling one in Texas if you want to have it shipped in. It's in great shape.

*edit* OH wait... you're in the Commu-Socialist Republic of California. Shipping vehicles in is prohibited by the emmissions laws, correct?

The fact that you can't find a VLX and when you do it's gone before you get there means that the demand is far outstripping the supply. It also means that you will probably pay a pretty penny for one. Like others have suggested, you might want to broaden your search a bit. You seem to be interested in a 600-700cc cruiser. You also seem to be looking for used (good choice). Take a look at what's available on craigslist in that range then do some research and see if the bike interestes you. If so, go take a look. My last three bikes were bought that way. I focused on a type and size of bike, not a specific brand or model then just watched to see what became available. I've not been disappointed yet.

Yep , broaden them horizons. You may just find yourself with a cool old chop for the same money.. look at everything in your price range, take plenty of test rides and something will come along to suit your needs and tastes.. then ride, ride and ride some more..if you can't ride it what good is it?

Not if it has at least 7500 miles on the clock.
