This weekend I want to tackle my first mod (beyond just putting on some bags and turn signals). I just bought a set of cobra drag pipes and got the jets that dynojet recommended for my setup. The only problem is that I am not sure exactly how to do it. The customer service rep at dynojet said, "use the DJ126 main jet with the needle on groove #2 from the top and the mixture screw 2 turns out".

I am not an experienced mechanic, so I don't really know what that means.

*I'm sure many of you are cringing right now*

If someone would be kind enough to walk me through how to do this properly, I would be much appreciative (and please use dummy-speak). As for why I don't just call a friend or take it to my mechanic....that's something I'd rather not get into in this thread.

Just installing pipe, without changing the air, will not require jetting the carb. Now, if you were ALSO changing the filter to K&N type, THEN you should jet the carbs at the same time. Just the pipes alone, though, I wouldn't go through the trouble. I didn't need it when I just put Cobras on my Spirit 750, and been running like that for about 10 years, now, with no issues, except maybe a bit of popping on decel, but that supposedly can easily be fixed. I like it, though.

By your own admission, you have no idea what you're doing. And if that's the case, take it to a shop. Either that or spend the summer on here trying to figure out why your bike runs like s*** when you should be riding. Or go ahead and try it and i'll be watching for your future posts. If you just want to sound cool, do a holesaw mod. You'll get the same effect and not have to molest the bike and spend a bunch of money to get it. BTW, have you chosen your earplugs yet?;)

I have decided to take it to the shop to have the carb done, but they won't be able to get me in for a few days or even a week out. Since I have the pipes and am itching to put them on, but don't want to run too lean, do you think there's any concern about just running with a 1/4 choke until I can get it jetted?

How do you plan to torque your bolts for the exhaust? Do you have new gaskets? Have you looked in your service manual so you understand the procedure? You do have a service manual, don't you? Let the shop do it.
