Yesterday, I winterized my 2005 Honda Shadow Spirit VT750DC for the first time. After reading tips online, I decided to burn the fuel out of the carbs by turning the petcock off while the engine was running and letting it run until it cut out. However, I noticed that the fuel pump made a clicking noise during this process and was wondering if this may lead to premature fuel pump failure.

Please advise.

Thanks!

On my Kawasaki Voyager XII, when you turn the key ON, the fuel pump does NOT come on. Consequently, if the bike has sat a few days, the carbs are DRY, and it takes quite a bit of cranking before bike fires up.
So I rigged up a switch which allows me to press the START switch & run fuel pump w/o the starter running. This allows me to PRIME the carbs w/ fuel. So when I flip switch, and run starter, it fires right up!

BTW: The fuel pump "clicks" when priming carbs.

That's the sound of your motorcycle screaming " NO NO don't put me away. Please please I want to live ". And you thought machines didn't have feelings.
