I have a 83 Shadow 750 with almost 40000 miles on it. I went on a 300 mile trip this last weekend, everything went great except when i would get it around 4 or 5000 RPMs, the engine would rev up but the bike would not speed up. As i would let off the gas it would begin to catch and take off. i had no problem riding normal just anytime i punched it this would happen. Is this the clutch plates, springs, or is it something else. i also just changed the oil before i left i put in the Valvoline 10W-50 4 stroke oil.(I dont know if that would affect it.) i know a decent amount about motors but clutch stuff is kind of new to me. i hope you guys can point me in the right direction.

Clutch plates or springs or cable adjustment. Looks like you used Motorcycle rated oil, good. But is it to full or too low?

Position the front tire against a sturdy wall and see what happens when you try to ride through it.
