If you have a infrared temp. gun you can run the bike at 2000 RPM and as the temp increases check various parts of the cooling system and see when the light and fan come on. Thermometer in the radiator will do it also.
I think you're asking how to check the bulb, is that right? You could bypass the temp sending unit and jump the lead to ground. That should activate the light.
Yea, turn on the ignition, don't start the bike, pull the connector off the temp sender and touch it to the block. That should complete the circuit and illuminate the bulb.
