It is a question I have always had. I ride primarily for transportation. Rarely ride for pleasure. I need a destination and a purpose once I am there. Riding makes the trip more pleasurable but it has to have purpose. I don't know why. How about you?

I ride for pleasure, often no set destination, just end up somewhere. I don't commute to work on the bike as it only just down the road and I take the kids and dog with me most days :)

I still manage 12-16K a year :D

Welcome to the forum! I use mine for both. When i go to do estimates or pick up small parts i can carry in the saddle bags, the bike is the transportation of choice. Who said you can't mix business with pleasure?!

I ride for the 'pleasure' of knowing how much $$$ I save not driving the Suburban.

For me, it's both. Pleasure, joy rides and just great transportation. I don't care what the weather is (can be pretty bad in Wyoming), but I'm out riding on either my shadow or dual sport. Almost rarely use my truck!

Both.

But after 10 years I am leaning more and more to needing a destination / event to get out and ride. I putz around for the sake of saying I rode less and less each year.

both. i don't make myself ride in bad/cold weather, but otherwise i use it to get to work when it's nice. i don't get the best gas milage seeing as both bikes i have are kinda big, but it's still better then my truck.

but when i can i just ride for pleasure. i might be different from most in that i like tooling around the city more than out on backroads.

I ride for both sides. 10 mile trip to work! But for some reason it takes me 45 mins. lol
i'm about 10mls from work also, but working 2nd shift, i more or less just ride in and ride home. i know i'd ride more if i was on first. on the rare occassions i can switch to 1st shift and happen to ride in, i usually take the long way home, but i just don't much enjoy a trip that ends up at work, and getting off at midnight there's not much to do but just go home.
