how tall are your stock risers (from bottom to mid-eye)? I'm guessing they're under 3" - I think if you go with drags (unless you do a broom stick), and don't change out the risers, you'll hit the sides of your tank when you turn the wheel. An easy swap would be to get stock 750 spirit bars and risers (I'm pretty sure your vlx has 1" bars) - guys unload those all the time when they upgrade.

Unlike Big Al, I like drags best with the shortest possible risers - obviously, you'll get lots of different opinions.

here's a couple of pics of vlx's with drags. The first is with broomsticks and pullback risers - maybe 4" an the second looks like it's got 6" risers. $30 bucks on ebay is pretty cheap - other drag bars you can get for under $20 like at http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/Index_Main_Frame.htm, but broomsticks are a little harder to find.

Just keep in mind that broomsticks are cool but not always the most comfortable bars to use.

no problem - one last note - if you were to use your stock risers with broomsticks, there's still a chance the risers will be too low and the bars will hit the tank - it's just less likely to happen with broomsticks than with other drag bars. Good luck!

I have an 86 VT 700c and have seriously thought of putting a set on min. I lie drag bars. Just wondered what they would look like on mine.

I'd like to seee a bike with them on it too.
I put em on my 86 VT700, have to dig up a pic at home and post later. much nicer than the angel wings IMO. Mirrors need to be replaced though, havent gotten around to that yet....
