I'm back on a ride after 28 years of family and the kids are now grown and gone. I picked up this '09 shadow and I'm curious, what are your favorite and most effective accessories to add to the bike, without exactly spending a fortune.

My favorites, the first to get done:
Throttle Rocker, ~$10, from Amazon or 50 other places.
Vance & Hines Straightshots.
Mustang seats.

As Lakota said for a 10 spot a throttle rocker, rocks. If you end up putting many long days on you may want to look at a throttle lock, I love mine. On the highway a windshield make life better for me. If you ride in the cold, check out electric jackets. Looks like you have a rack for hauling stuff home from the store.

Looks like you already have the two most important adds, something to carry something and a good wind breaker. Everything else is so dependent on the type and amount of riding you plan to do. Got folks on here that together represent the entire spectrum so feed them some idea of what your intentions are and you will get loads of great ideas.

Latest Add-on

OK, so I know I'm not the first (by far) to add on a power plug, but this may be one of the cleanest installs I've done. It took about half an hour and I ran it off the battery for power without the key. Any input or is there a better way?

Nice looking Spirit Dunc. I think my next accessory will be a Kisan Signal Minder. I tend to forget and leave my blinkers on. Signal minder is a self canceling adjustable flasher and also provides for running lights, 4-way (escort mode) flashers and a brake light flasher with a stop light override. They cost around $100.

The most necessary accessory is my dual Fiamm car horns I took from an SUV. Because the drivers here in Toronto are so **** bent on killing each other and myself, I use them on each and every ride.

The most favorite accessory would be my windshield, which cuts down on wind noise, bug splatter and the environment. The accessory that stands out the most is my grip warmers. I do not use them much, but when my hands get cold and I turn them on it really puts a smile on my face.

If you ride at high speed much, then lowers are a good choice.
Safety? air horn and headlight modulator.
Comfort? mustang seat.

Welcome back to the ride....28 years is a long wait.

Lockable hard bags, and an a good comfortable seat are by far the best accessories I've ever added to a bike, and something I need badly for my current ride.

To Danfriday - It was from Radio Shack. It is called, believe it or not, a car power accessory outlet. No actually, I got it about a year ago for the trunk of the '08 Mustang but never installed it. I'm not sure if they still make/carry it, but the upc is 040293158804. I like it because the port looks to be waterproof and I don't pay much attention to the elements.

I'd have to say the one that makes the most difference to you will be a Mustang seat. The stock seats on those will keep you off the bike when you want to do those long hauls.
