Why did a bad jet make you think you needed an engine?
i knew nothing about carbs when i started this project.
i took all of my measurements and readings, and symptoms and posted them on this forum and one other.
a response from one of these guys said "you might have blew the engine if you ran out of oil, check the compression"
i checked the compression and it was low.
so i bought a spare engine for a swap.
then i found a competent local bike guy.
he gave me the answer without asking for money to fix it.
i tried to leave it there for him to do and he wouldnt.
so know i owe him work.
and i fixed it for free in 20 minutes.

Well, glad you got it fixed with minimal trouble. There's no substitute for good diagnostics. Always cheaper that just throwing parts at something in hopes of a fix. And with the age of your bike, spare parts are always good to have on hand. And in the process, you found a good mechanic to help in the future should you need him.
