So...I've come to realize that if I leave my fuel valve on my bike has a hard time starting after sitting for a while. If I turn the fuel valve off, it starts right up on first try. Is there an explanation for this? Or am I just imaging things? Maybe fuel mix is too rich?

If that is the cause (float valve leaking - I think is what you mean) - I believe you would see a rise in the oil level and the oil will smell somewhat like gasoline - fuel would drain into the crank case eventually.
