I think this is the right place to post this.

Here's a link to some stories about the problems some people caused when "fixing" their bikes. Does anyone have anything to add here?

My worst one yet was getting back from winter break and emptying the saddle bags of anything of value because I was going to be staying at a friend's place and the bike was going to be outside. Of course I forgot to check some important things that I had been fiddling with before break and I'm not quite sure how it happened but my riser clamp worked itself loose on me and I had to ride a loooong ways holding the bars up. My shoulders were screaming at me. After a summer of carrying around every tool I could possibly use I finally needed one right after I emptied the bike, so the stupidest thing I've ever done to my bike with tools was remove them.

I've got plenty of wrenching days ahead of me to make better mistakes though...
