I'm Rob. I getting back into riding again after 10 years. I just purchased a 1986 Shadow VT700. I had a 1993 Shadow VT1100c before. I just need to get the bike working again. It had been sitting for 7 years.
Welcome Robert! HSN is the place you want to be for this. A '86 Shadow VT700...my brother has one in his garage which has unfortunately been sitting for about 20yrs. It would be a project, but I'm thinking about rescuing it!
Sitting for 7 years: probably just remove and clean the carb real good. Flush and fill the clutch and brake master cylinders. New battery. Fresh oil. Radiator flush. Blow out the air filter. If it ran when it was parked then it should be easy.
Later down the road you can look at brakes and then your forks.
Best of luck to you. If you find yourself in a jam you'll find plenty of help around here.
Hi Rob - Welcome to the forum and to riding again!
You may want to remove the tank and petcock. Give the tank a good rinse-out to make sure you don't fill the freshly rebuilt carburetor with 7-year's worth of dirt/gunk.
New fuel filter would probably be a good idea too. The rest can be done as time allows once you get the fluids all changed.
Best of luck getting her brought back to life - Kevin
