HSN Dragon Day?

14132 Views 250 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  Coop
Well... I've been getting some PMs and some texts. Rather then answer a bunch of them how about I post it up...

Anyone interested in meeting up for a ride on the dragon or just some BBQ at the dragon pit.

I'm staying at Two Wheel Inn on 4/3. I will be in the area early and will spend the day riding around, then the Dragon after checkin (drop off luggage and make the bike lighter) then dinner at the Pit.

Saturday 4/4 I will likely be taking 129 to 28 (Fontana Dam) and heading to FL via SC with Coop and his Brother in law.

Two Wheel Inn 828-479-4248 | Accommodations for you and your motorcycle, Located on US129, south of Robbinsville NC near the Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway.
and
Dragon Pitt Inn & BBQ | On US129, only 9 miles from the famous Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap

If you've never been on the Dragon, this would be a good time to go. The "season" just opened and Friday should be a low traffic day. Hell of a way to meet a bunch of HSNers.... Plus, you could get some GREAT action shots from Killboy.com - Action Photography at The Tail of the Dragon Deals Gap | The original Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap action photographer.

I know it's short notice.

just moved down to florida looks like it's about an 8hr drive for me might just be able to make it. If I can get all the house projects done.
I wish I could go but I was just off work for 9 days. Hopefully I will see you in Florida,,,,, home of the Tail of the Gecko....11 curves in 318 miles !!
Getting closer...
Got lots to do b4 then though. Bike needs a few little things handled by then, no biggie.
Here is a pic from last time Canyon and I were there.
Would I ride like this with anyone, nope, Canyon is one of maybe 2 people I would ever consider this with, yes we were above posted speed limit I'm betting, but it never was unsafe feeling! He's got skills and knows me and my level too.
Date of pic, 4-3-13. Next time we ride it, 4-3-15, we need to play lottery!

#1 rule of all riding.. ... never do big work on a bike right before a big trip. Whatever you are doing make sure you give her a good burn in ride around town. Most I ever do within 3 weeks of a big trip, oil change if needed before the trip is over. Rather ride with fresh oil than do one on the road or wait til I get home. Outside of 3 weeks, it's fine for me for burn in.. ;)
Just oil change, rear end lube, check/ service rear drive splines and inspect bearings and see why all my speakers are not working properly. Not a big job, just checking splines be a use I haven't since tire install.

Taking the tire off to check splines... you best be putting more molly paste on there!! If you're not going to do that, don't even bother pulling that tire off!
That's the service part.... may need to see 8f I can find paste b4 I do though....

I've been to the gap twice now, both times in 1st gen RX7's. I'm taking my shadow to the gap on my birthday 4-16. Taking the trip alone though, as i like to do what i want to when and how i want to lol but that picture you posted angers me. I know that road pretty well, i NEVER cross the center line in a CAR because of people on bikes. Bike riders should do the same and NEVER cross the center line. Sorry, but crossing the center line in a bike or a car, while im in a bike or a car, angers me. Especially on US129

Looks like his on the right line of the two, not across them.

Hey little buddy did your supervisor give the "green light" on you getting to meet the guys at the Dragon????

you goin' or not?

yeah, his front tire. The bars, mirrors, fairing thing, etc is all over the line. what if a car was coming the other way? what if a motorcycle was coming the other way, not crossed the line but "on the right line of the two". Its a public road, be smart about it. Everyone goes there ride spirited, exceed speed limits, have fun, etc. Stay on your side of the road. Death isn't fun I'd have to guess.
what if a car was coming the other way?
I'm guessing if a car was coming from the other way, he wouldn't be riding there.

We all know the road is dangerous...why do you think they are wearing their Power Ranger uniforms?;)

My supervisor? I don't have a supervisor that I'm aware of. And I generally don't tell Nick what I'm doing...works better that way.

I'm waiting on an email back from my secretary on one more meeting, but as of now, it looks like I'm going.

May go buy a GoPro 3+ for the trip.

oh ok, i wish i was closer and could go.

Looking forword to finally getting to see a clear full picture of you to put a face with the name...;)

i'm sure you've seen the pics of me i have posted over the years.

Tires, lets talk tires. You're still running on the plugged rear tire i imagine,
how's it holding up? Losing any Air compared to the front????

Although my gut instinct tells me you won't be going on the mini-dragon trip
i still hope you do.. and if you do I think you should get that GoPro and get some practice in with it leading up to Sturgis.

Keeping my eye on you little buddy, you come across like a "mover and shaker"

Although my gut instinct tells me you won't be going on the mini-dragon trip Why wouldn't I go? It's a short trip at just over 300 miles one way.

Yo!
Funny, if you know the Dragon that good, you can easily in this curve see what's 1/4 mike ahead!
Funny Theja just posted about power rangers, I sent him a text about it not knowing it.....
