Welcome to the Forum and welcome to motorcycling. That's a big bike for a first bike, so practice practice practice with it. Slow maneuvers will be harder than higher speeds so work on starting, stopping and slow turms.

Niiice. I bought my first motorcycle November 2013, a 2000 Sabre 1100.
I have to say that having highway bars has saved my bike from a lot of dents and scrapes. Not implying that you will let that baby fall over but if you think it's a possibility the engine guard is a great thing and a nice place to hang Highway pegs.
