Last year I purchased a pair of V&H , longshots for my Sabre. I also picked up the v&h quiet baffle for the pipes. I was planning on using flat, stove gasket rope in lieu of the fiberglass wrap. My question is to those who have performed the switch on an 1100. I want to improve the responsiveness of the throttle and overall performance. Did you find the noise to be excessive? I just want tohear some feedback before Iinstall the pipes, rejet the carbs and add a k&n air filter. The dtock and v&h pipes are both in very good condition so I am on the fence. What say you?

You'll gain a slight bit more responsiveness. As far as noise level, the pipes are still going to be loud compared to stock. The quiet baffles will help at low rpm's but once you open it up, they'll be loud.

I bought the pipes last year off a guy who sold his Sabre and didn't need them any longer. I suffered an injury and that curtailed my riding and working on the bike.

The flat, stove rope gasket is used to wrap the baffles with, it lasts forever and helps muffle down the roar of the long shots. I hope...

I have long shots with baffles they are still loud. And I have the single pin motor....close to a Harley sounds as it gets. Many of my friends that ride HD want to test my Aero out.

You will turn some heads. On the freeway they rumble like hell

I have V&H Longshots on my VN1500, they came with the bike and they have their own baffles, (mufflers) which are held in with a single bolt, They don't sound loud at all and I am even considering removing the baffles.

If you are considering wrapping the outside of the longshots with a covering consider this first..50% of people who wrap pipes do it to cover existing rust or damage and many people who have wrapped pipes say that the wrap holds damp against the surface of the pipes and actually causes rust.

Well, i thought he meant to wrap the baffles and put them back in, but i hope he didnt think that wrapping the outside would help or make it any quieter.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

1. Remove baffles from longshots.

2. Wrap v&h quiet baffles with flat stove rope gasket. (Loosely)

3. Place said baffles in longshots.

4. Screw in locking bolt.

5. Voila

I have had cobra drag pipes on a different bike with their standard baffles and it was ridiculously loud. Hoping the longshots plus quiet baffles will be a lot of rumble without the high pitched tinny sound.

To be honest I wasn't quite sure what you meant, that is why I posted what I did..

I've never heard of anyone trying to make baffles quieter and I'm not sure what will happen when you do, meantime if you do this it might be a good idea to monitor the result carefully, the thought of sticking a potato up the exhaust pipe comes to mind so I would be very interested in the result.

Perhaps it went over my head i am green after all to biking but explain why if oe pipes are not so loud can be made a little louder anyone would buy pipes esp hidollar VnH pipes to quiet them. Only reason i can think of is asthetic reasons. I beleive when buying these pipes for perfomance or looks you must exept the bike is gona get louder. Buying pipes then buying quiet baffles is way over my head i dont get it. Explain..... OK disregard this post as i had not read you received the bike with the vnh pipes nor your 1-5 list. I got it.

I bought shortshots for my bike and they were too loud. I bought the quiet baffles and they were still too loud, but had a deeper rumble. By their nature, the insulation will break down and eventually disappear. When this happens I will wrap mine with stove rope. You have to wrap it loosely or it will choke off your exhaust, but it needs to be tight enough that the baffle fits back in the pipe.
I think v&h should give you the option of getting the quiet baffle with your initial order instead of having to order seperately. Of course it does ensure they get the $$$.

What they are doing with the baffles on the Cobra or V&H is different with what they do with the Baffles on the OEM pipes.

The Cobras and VH Baffles just quiet down somewhat or a little bit, they are still PLENTY loud IMO with their version of the baffle installed. I know the Cobra StreetRods were very loud with the baffles in. So loud i took them off my bike.
