It happened. Took my first fall on my shadow. It wasn't due to error. Some guy wasn't paying attention. Coming up to a red light, some guy that wasn't paying attention, jump in my lane at the last second coming up to a red light. I had to break hard and hit some gravel.

Hopefully you are all right- slow speed fall and not much damage to the ride.

Glad you can post. Biggest percentage of drops are due to i attention of car driver changing lanes so don't feel bad. Hope it didn't mess your bike up.

im ok. The only damage to the bike is a scratched tail light. I was extremely lucky. Didn't discourage me from riding. I checked the bike over, made sure it was still drivable, and continued on my way.
Glad your OK. Expect the unexpected and be safe.

Glad you're ok, just remember we are invisible when we ride so it's up to us to assume the worst of every cage.

*******, I totally agree. I knew before I started that's it not if you fall, its when. I also understand about being invisible. I always have my head on a swivel. With that being said, I still wouldn't give up riding for anything. Riding is that thing that I never knew I was missing, but now that ive found it, I will never give it up.

Glad you're ok and all that.....but your outlook on this is wrong. Riders are not innocent little lambs going off to slaughter when they hit the open road. Mindlessly repeating the 'not if/when' mantra doesn't make it true.

Two of you were not paying attention at the red light. Give some thought to what happened and what you could have done to avoid it. There is always something to learn, always something different to consider. Your / our life depends on learning and improving.

I was paying attention when coming up to the light. The light had turned yellow, so I was gradually breaking when the guy jumped lanes at the last second before coming to a stop at the light. I didn't lock up the breaks, but I must have hit some gravel and the tires slid out from underneath me. Not trying to sound rude, but what was it that I did wrong in that situation? Also, as far as the "not if/but when you fall", every biker that ive ever talked too has said that same thing. Again, not trying to be rude, but im still new to riding. I only know what ive either been told or read about. That's one of the reasons I joined this forum.

We all were at one time. We learn through experience the longer we ride. Did you notice when you applied for motorcycle insurance they ask you how long you've been riding and owned a cycle? They base their rates from statistics of MC accidents and yrs of driving experience.

The best and foremost tip I can offer you is to be alert for the unexpected and have a plan for an escape from harms way if it occurs. For the one you were just in, maybe you could have slowed down earlier coming to the light by downshifting into a lower gear, that way allowing more room ahead of you in anticipation of the lane jumper. Other's will chime in and offer you more tips for riding safely so don't be offended by it, but read, learn and practice them when driving your bike and cager. None of us want to hear of a fellow biker going down and not making it through it. You did, now learn from that experience ;)
