Need some help here please. Bought this 2002 1100 spirit a couple of weeks ago. Inside one of the saddlebags, I found a Cobra turn signal extension kit. The package was opened and there were some random parts in the package. Evidently, the PO was going to do the turn signal relocate to fit some decent sized saddlebags, but for some reason gave up? Now, I notice that both signals are loose and can swivel almost 360 degrees? How do I snug those bad boys up? I see a phillips head screw facing the back, but I tightened it and got zero results. Anyone out there know how to tighten these? They are loose at the mount against the rail. Thanks in advance. One is "wobbly" loose:(

I think you either have to remove the rear tire or the fender to access the turn signal mounting nut.

Yea. I was afraid of that. I was doing some research and it appears that there is a screw with a nut on the end that can be tightened, but the side fenders have to be removed:( Nothing is ever easy. I am wondering if the PO somehow rigged them and that's why they are loose? Anyone know any short cuts to get to the nut to snug them up?

Nope, my left rear turn hangs a little low compared to the right and needs to be tightened. No way can I get my hand or a wrench in there to tighten. I don't know if raising the rear with a stand would drop the rear tire low enough to gain access to the nut. Reminder to self, have tech tighten left turn signal mounting bolt when mounting new tire.

You'll have to get at the nut behind the rails, just pull off the bags, the seat then remove the bolts that hold up the fender and either remove the fender after disconnecting the wiring or drop the fender on the wheel and you should be able to get at it.

LLLL Bring over, I can clear the lift in 9 minutes...

Or hang loose two days and the lift will be cleared for Nicks footpeg project :D

Whatever needs to come off or moved outta the way to access that nut with a wrench has to be done...
IF the fender is in the way and you do not want to remove it, you can make an access hole in it...
BUT...

I love wrenching and modifcating ...
Lets Ride
But NOT with floppy turn signals

Thanks for the replies. This will be a nice weekend project. So, I assume the signal bolts to the inside of the chrome rail and the wiring runs along the inside of the rail/fender?

yup the fender isnt too hard to take off and yes the wires run along inside the rail you need to remove both seats and then remove the mounts holding the fender on
the whole process takes about 30 mins to an hr depending on skill lvl
and requires no special tools or knowledge

this is also a great time to inspect the wires running along the frame for wear and tear and replace if broken or worn
as well as checking the air filter since its right there under the seat
