It reminds me of a sad old Goldwing that used to sit about a block away from us for several years. Sometimes in the winter it would be so buried in snow that only bits showed. I saw the guy work on that bike off and on over the years but I never once saw the thing run. Sad, it was.

That said, I've had a bike out in the elements all winter and it still ran just fine afterward. They ain't Tiffany glass.

Been there, done that..know what? They get over it and run just fine
Yep, I had to store mine outside through the whole winter a couple of years ago. But, I did put it under the awning on my patio with a high quality cover snugly fit, a couple of socks over the exhaust pipes, and the battery tender hooked up.

When spring arrived, all it needed was a quick wipe down with some detailing spray and she fired right up.

I don't think I'd leave it open to the elements for more than a few days or weeks but the outdoors won't hurt them if done right.

Now I have a shed that's big enough to store my motorcycle as well as all of my lawn maintenance tools and snow blower.

Don't judge me. :D

The old parsonage I live in never had a garage and never will. All my cars and bikes have always lived outside all year round. My bikes are usually covered but sometimes not...you don't put a horse away wet...and I've been surprised by snow/ice storms before I could get a cover on.

But she's well maintained and cared for. If I had a garage, that's where she'd be, but really, she's not a delicate sugar cube that needs to be tucked in bed all winter. There are garage-kept bikes around my neighborhood that have more dust or wax on them than I've ever had snow on mine. ;)

Sadly, there are neglected bikes that are left out to rot and that irritates me, too. But it's not the weather that ruins them...It's their owners.
