What causes the IC-ingnitors to go bad. I just fixed an '83 by replacing one of these. the PO said it was bad. now the bike runs great.

I have the same bike but mine are good so far. If they get water inside it will ruin the circuit board. Or if someone has been poking around and shorted something on the ignition system it may fry it. Maybe a coil went bad and caused damage.
Glad it is fixed with another unit.
