Just bought the wife an 07 Shadow. Shopped for some time and found a very nice bike for reasonable money. I've owned, ridden and built motorcycles all my life. She's really a beginning rider and this bike is really a lot for a beginner. I have my misgivings about such a large bike but it's difficult to justify buying a Rebel when I can get a nearly perfect Shadow for about the same money. Good, Bad, it's done and it only requires judgement and common sense to acclimate her and get her up to speed. I hope to get information and hopefully give some back to the group. Tom

Sounds like the wife has a good teacher. You know the steps: permit, practice in an empty parking lot and side roads, MC safety course. Just make sure you're there to coach her on. And as a suggestion, if the 750 doesn't have highway bars on it, put some on to protect her and the bike.

Sounds like you are a little concerned for your wife's safety, which is understandable, but many start off on these Shadows and they do well on them.. Like has been said, you will make a great teacher, many don't even have that..

I'm sure your wife will do fine and in time, with practice, will become the perfect riding partner.

All the best to you both and Welcome to the Forum.

The 750 isn't that big for a beginner, that's what my bike is and I was a beginner when I got it. The salesman talked me out of a Rebel, saying I'd outgrow it in a month or so.

He was right!

Damn near outgrew the 750 in a month, but its my baby now, I need to keep it and it rides, handles well on both highway and city roads.

Be confident in your wife and she will be confident with the bike and practice, practice, practice.
