First there is the Malorie's Law. Any bike carrying a passenger must have foot rest, (duh) and handholds for use by the passenger. I ride solo so it doesn't affect me really, but those that do, I guess the ole girlfriends hands around your waist doesn't constitute a hand hold anymore.

Then the part that kills me, It is now a class B misdemeanor if I get caught in a completely empty parking lot on a early Sunday morning trying to teach my wife how to learn to ride her bike, such as she did in that video I posted some time ago.

Bill Text: TX HB3838 | 2013-2014 | 83rd Legislature | Comm Sub | LegiScan
You didn't get the part about training right. It says for a concideration which means you get paid for it.

Is it a traffic offense?

Well teaching someone to ride in a parking is going to be a tough one. Because depending where you are.
e.g: your friend has a parking lot he said you can use it, cop drives up. Can he give you a ticket? Well no.. he's trespassing and you ask him/her to leave before you have him arrested for trespassing!!

Supermarket lot are Private parking lot. So were is the jurisdiction.
Now city land, but IS that not public land and not a road.

Plus my insurance does not STATE either way on passenger carry yet I am allowed too.

Something is not right about that, constitutional hell basket.
Police can ticket in parking lots. The town police here hand out tickets in a lot by my house for running stops signs and the signs are all over the shopping center.

In the US, that would be private property's that unless something blatantly illegal was going on, the police could do nothing. Them entering it would be trespassing at the discression of the owner.

Tell that to all the people that get stop sign violations at the Home Depot by me. Unless the property is gated it's fair game for police and they aren't trespassing.

I never said that you didn't have to follow traffic laws, i.e. posted signs.

Maybe in your communist state the gated thing is all that counts, but I've been with cop buddies of mine when told to get out of a parking lot of a closed business. You leave or get charged with trespassing. They didn't like us practicing on our bikes on there lot because of Liability if one of us wrecked. Didn't care that two cops on police bikes were with us.

Unless there are no trespassing signs, they can't do squat other then tell you to leave. I can understand that they don't want to be responsible if someone got hurt.

Um, they can call the law and have you forceably removed or arrested. That's just a bit more than "squat".

And you don't have to have any signs. They mean nothing. Well, maybe they do in Illinoistan...

In Illinois you have to No trespassing signs. If you stay after the owner says go, then it's on you. I doubt that most owners would try to have you forcibly removed if you were just practicing riding. I took my wife and son over to the high school to practice and never had any problems.
