Not letting the cold get to me!

So in the morning I'm taking off on my first longish ride =3 hours. Also I will be riding in lower temps than I have ever ridden in before. It may be as low as (37 degrees). I have only ridden in temps down to about 50 degrees before and some parts of my body got very cold then. One area was my wrists. With my arms stretched forward my wrists are exposed because I do not have winter riding gloves. I went to a local bike shop to look at some but at $65.00 I decided to pass.
So today I put on my thinking cap and came up with this simple solution for tomorrows ride.
I cut the toe out of an old pair of heavy socks and will wear them on my arms to help block some of the wind. Hey it's better than nothing....until I break down and get some longer gloves.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to have done this.

Damn....put sun block on guys. Take it from a frequent visitor to the skin cancer clinic at age 59, you don't want to burn like that a lot. These days I run a full face with the darkest UV blocker shield I could find, and always wear long sleeves. On the infrequent occasions when I wear a half helmet it's sun block or I don't go out.

I didn't even think about sunblock until I got back home yesterday. Seems like it has been cloudy, rainy, or snowy the last 6 months. First time always gets me.
A little red faced my self. But it was worth it!!!!!!!!!
That warm sunshine we were standing in really helped.
LOL...
Eventually...

We met up with Jason and Mike at a gas station a little north and west of Moonshine.
We had all just climbed off our bikes and were cold.
I even remember hearing someone say... "I'm Cold"
For whatever reason we were standing... ... ... ...in the SHADE.
After about a minute, I realized how stupid we were all being and walked all of eight feet to find the sun beaming intensely.
What a bunch of Morons!

...despite the cold start of the day I managed to come home with a sun burnt face. The sun shining in the afternoon while waiting in line for a burger must have been enough to burn me.
Yep, got me to.

I believe that was me... I remember both of us about the same time saying something like, DOH we're standing in the shade.

Guess we're not the sharpest knives in the drawer huh?
Sorry to be a pain but riding in the cold sucks and honestly living in MA you have to have warm riding gear for early and late in the season. If you buy a great pair of gloves you will use them for a long time. Happy riding!
Yeah, wearing jackets all winter and staying inside does not allow the sun get our skin...
Then spend a whole day in the wind & in the sun and enjoying the atmosphere we tend to forget the sun and wind are as harsh as they are...

Headed to Texas John Boy called from Biloxi stating he was sunburned...

Lets RIDE
Good, long, 'gauntlet' style, thick, insulated gloves are a MUST for cold weather. I got my best pair at a local motorcycle rally, for about $20. With a pair of military wool liners in them, I can easily handle down to 'freezing', and maybe a bit below that. Once it gets into the 20s, then either my hands get a bit cold, or I break out the electric gloves. So far, the coldest I've ridden in was 13 degrees, WITHOUT the 'wind chill', so I was probably well below zero in actuality, but with the electric gloves, my hands weren't even cool. I got my electric gloves off eBay for about $80, shipped. I'm sure you'll be able to find something good that will meet your needs, if you keep on looking.
AND now is a good time to get a BARGIN!!!!
