Hi folks, wanting to change the oil soon on my Shadow Aero and upon reading the owner's manual it says that the oil filter needs to be fitted with a special torque wrench to a certain pressure. Now I've always just hand tightened oil filters and that's been the usual advice. As I don't have one of these special tools, is it good enough to just hand tighten the oil filter? Any recommendations for the type of oil to use? Thanks for any thoughts folks.

Put a film of clean oil on the gasket then hand tighten then 1/8 of a turn more. Read the following link about motorcycle oil.

Following instructions on the filter;
I will firmly "seat" the filter, then tighten 1/4 turn by hand...

But that`s just me,

On my 83 VT750 the oem filter says to turn another 7/8 turn after contact.
