I just bought this bike, a 98 Aero 1100. It has aftermarket pipes. Looking at the pipes, the rear pipe is severly discolored, and the insides of both pipes are sooty. (no, not SNotty, sooty!). My first guess is they have backed the idle screws way out to compensate for the pipes, but it is still running lean on top.
Here's the question - when I get into the carbs, how will be able to tell if a jet kit has been installed. I assume the jets have the orifice # stamped on them, but what about the main needle? any markings?

The quickest and easiest way to tell is to look at the needles.
If the needles have removable/adjustable E clips on them, it's a jet kit.
If they are not adjustable, they are stock.
