I'm thinking of painting my black '96 VT1100 dark metallic blue, but I don't really want to tear it apart completely, in order to paint the frame also. I was wondering if leaving the frame black would look cheezy. Have any of you just painted your tank, fenders, and anything else that is easily removed, and if so, does it look good? Thanks-
Well, don't most stock bikes have black frame? This is the route most folks take for the main reason of the labor and cost required. Most times painting the frame first requires properly prepping it, like getting rid of unfinished weld lines , etc..work work work.
Yes only the Tins, the frame my come at a later date. In winter when I'm not riding. The bike was metallic black, originally Blue and white, striped to bare metal. Now 2011 HD Chome Yellow.
Just pull the tank, covers and fenders and have them painted. Most shadows came with a black frame. When you decide to do a full tear down and Repaint then deal with the frame.
i honestly think on a stock style bike that a black frame is the only way to go, opposite of what you said it seems cheesy to have frame colored. also if its anything other than black it has to be really clean and smoothed out to look nice.
