Okay it might be a dumb question but how does the speedo on my phantom work? Theres no cables just wires so where does it pick up the speed? I'm wanting to run a different tank and aftermarket speedo. Any help would be appreciated.

Your speedometer is really just a volt meter. Pulses are counted and passed to a frequency-to-voltage converter. I recently discovered it too on my VTX. My first thought "OK, where's the cable?"

Pulses per miles...

I don't have any experience with motorcycle systems but the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on automobiles have various ratings. On cars and trucks the range can be from 2000 to 44,000 pulses per mile. If this varies on bikes than it would be extremely important to make sure the speedo is compatible and/or adjustable.

FI bikes might be tapping into the electronic module (whatever the term), the vehicle speed sensor signals (VSS), to operate the speedo.
