Pirelli MT66 is an AWESOME tire! Best "bang for the buck" out of them all. There's lots of threads on here about them.

Never tried them, but can't remember a single person saying anything bad about them.. And when it comes to tire threads.. That says enough in itself.

I have a set on the Rebel and have been happy with them except for one problem.

I started getting a wiggle in the handlebars when taking curves, felt like riding on rain grooves. The MT66 rear had around 8000-9000 miles on it at the time. I was thinking maybe the steering stem bearings were going bad so I took it to the dealer to check it out.

He rode it and said it was the rear tire making the bike wiggle. Long story short from his experience the Mt66 the rear tires will tend to feather the center tread (as mine had done) running the recommended 29 psi in them. He said they had seen much better results running them around 35 psi. I replaced the feathered tire with a new MT66 and the wiggle was gone.

Other than that they are great tires, provide good grip and apparently if inflated slightly higher than the recommended pressure great mileage. I would say the feathered rear with 8000-9000 miles had maybe half the tread left.

I run my Pirelli MT66's at 30 lbs (front) and 35 lbs (rear) and don't have any issues at all. They are amazing tires!

firehawk were you using Dyna-beads.
No, the first MT was mounted at the dealer and they used stick on weights. The second one I mounted myself and it needed no weight to balance.

I case anyone's misunderstood, I have no real gripe with the MT's. They stick very well... didn't know a Rebel could corner so well. Whew... Mileage seems great, they are about the best for the buck out there.

if my tires had just 29 in them i'd be looking for a nail in the tire

Keep mine at 31/38 (metzeler ME880's)

Well if you make it I hope we get lucky and find each other with the thousand or so bikes around.
Maybe as it gets closer we could exchange cell numbers or something.

29 psi is the factory recommended pressure for the Rebel. On the VLX I run 30 up front and 32 in the rear.

Mind you my current tire should last another month so should find one in time :D

Love my MT66's, even with limited knowledge of bike tires I think I made the right choice. I was looking at four tires, when I got them priced and based on reviews I bought the pirelli's. They weren't the cheapest or the most expensive. I noticed a difference in handling as soon as I hit the road. After a little scuffing they just got better. We'll see how they handle gravel come summer up here (mid may?).

Dingo.
