One problem I had last season was what I thought was a coolant leak from the water pump. It was a very slow leak. After a thousand mile ride, it is no longer leaking. Could it be that I had the coolant level too high and the system was just getting rid of the excess? Seems to be doing fine now, coolant level is holding steady and no overheating.

A water pump has a spinning seal made from ceramic and hard carbon to stop coolant from getting down the shaft and bearings.
If it had sat for a while the seal may have allowed some seepage. And after running again it must have reseated itself and the seepage stopped. It has a very smooth polished surface and has to spin and seal all the time.

Depends on where the leak was on the bike.
