Is there an issue with rust in Shadow fuel tanks? A couple of previous bikes had this issue and needed a liner(POR15)installed. My 99 Spirit 1100 shares some of those symptoms, so I thought I'd ask. And yes, I did a search. TIA

Thanks for the replies. I'm talking about a sixteen YO bike I bought about a year ago, whose history I have no knowledge of. As I said, there are some symptoms of a rusty tank, eg, bucking and sputtering at low revs with moderate throttle opening, indicative of partially clogged pilot jets. The carbs were cleaned last year and the symptoms went away for most of the season, but were reappearing in the Fall. I guess I'll just buy a POR15 kit and have the carbs done again.

IF it were me ::>

I`d pull the petcock to check the strainer...
IF it has rust particles cloggingit, I`d clean out the tank, put a quart of vinegar in it, slosh that around to be sure all surface has some vinegar on it, slosh again, empty, dry, reinstall, fill and ride...
But that`s just me ;)

Good Luck,
Dennis
