Thanks to all who have responded to my earlier posts about this.
After three years and 20 rejets, and various exhaust swaps, I think I finally got it right.

Samson shotgun pipes with 1-3/4 inch Samson baffles
Dyno Jet needles on 5th groove (the 3rd groove would not run)
stock 042 slow jets
Dyno Jet 175 main jets
mixture screws at 2-1/2 to 3 turns
K & N air filter

It runs pretty good! Will check the spark plugs in a few weeks. Might be a touch lean, judging from throttle response, but not worth messing with again.

If anyone is having trouble with exhaust backfiring, try new exhaust gaskets- it worked for me! And make sure the header nuts are tight.

I have an 04 1100 Spirit with Samsom Street Sweepers. No baffles Stock main jet, stock needle, stock slow jet, and no problems. No backfire uns perfect.

they sound decent. No craking on decel. Rumbly at low throttle openings.
But they really bark when you open the throttle.

Hey mike1, have you ever heard of a movie called Roadhouse 66?

20 rejets in 3 years - WOW :shock: You must enjoy working on your bike :D
