is that normal?
the filter loosk PRETTY clean, but ive never seen a new one, so I decided to run it for a secod with no air filter, when I twist the grip, it back fires like HELL, shot fire out of the air hole thing.

is that normal?

or do I have some sort of problem here?

That's pretty normal. When the air filter is on, the air restriction (even a new filter has some restriction) causes the mixture to be a little more rich. The bike leaves the factory adjusted for it, and the bike expects it. When you have the filter off, the carbs are running much leaner than they are intended to, and you get that backfiring. I wouldn't sweat it one bit.

I was hoping it was a lean condition from the filter removal.
man, these large displacement 4 strokes are a new beast to me.
