checkout tourtanks.com. i have two, a 3.7gal on my cruiser and a 2.5 on the vlx. they tap into the fuel supply line before the filter and can be used independently or in tandem. i love mine, saved my bacon a few times out in nowhere land.

Or perhaps getting rear ended and toasted at the same time. I don't think I'd want one as a bumper.
actually, being made from aluminium its really not likely to explode unless you drop a match in. autos pretty much all have rear tanks. i've been using one for 7 years or more, and yep i've dropped the bike more than once... didn't even leak. also, there are many folks using rear mounted tanks and ive heard of no explosive reports. and not to change the subject, but if lane splitting is practised a rear end hit is much much less likely. i love my rear mounted tanks,.. thanks..

ps... i'd be more worried about those ever so popular throttle locks...
