I do wear em, chaps. But they only block the wind, and do nothing for retaining body heat. I layer up under the chaps with long handles, 2 pairs of socks, lined old style windpants then jeans topped off by chaps. works for me.

I wear chaps, not ONLY for cold weather, but all the time I`m riding, for protection from the elements and road debris...
When Sure `Nuff Cold hits, I`ll wear insulation...
I Bought a snowsuit a LONG time ago (late 80s) for protection from COLD while (there working powerlines) in Tupelo, MS...
I cover this suit with chaps, soas NOT to melt them on HOT PIPES...
The first set of chaps I bought, (in 007) was at the leather shop in Perry, FL to cover the insulated snowsuit...

ABATE of GA Frosty Balls Ride is an annual thing here...

Hold on! how "Cold" does it actually get in florida?! :p
I rode the bike while in high 20's just with jeans and I was doing fine.
That said! I do want a set of chaps for next year :)

I only wear 'em dancing...(just kidding. Someone had to say it.)

Actually, I have a goretex rain suit for golfing and have used the pants for skiing and riding, plus playing golf. They are tough as nails, warm, waterproof and windproof. I don't ride in the 20's--fingers and toes get too cold, but a sunny day in the 30's is fine with my tourmaster jacket and the goretex pants.

I'll be honest, when it gets that cold I take the truck.....
Fifteen years ago I rode a bike no matter the weather. I've grown ("grown" being a key word.) to really appreciate a heated cabin with a morning radio show and a cup of coffee in the cup holder.

I had not thought of that. My feeling was that chaps ought to be worn only under two circumstances: 1) by cowboys on horseback; and 2) by nubile, curvaceous women with a bikini underneath. I guess dancing counts...but in what sort of establishment is this dancing conducted?

On second thought...I withdraw the question.

i have a hard time seeing myself in chaps, but this seems like a good deal.

the thing i'm wondering though, when i go through the sizing deal it looks like i need a 3xl. seems like it would way be too big, but that's what i get. is that about how it works out for those of you that have them?

Frogg Togg rainsuit bottoms works well for late nite cooler weather. (45 degree) Not a fashion statement but blocks wind and dampness for a nice toasty warm ride and don't take additional room beings its on the bike all the time.
Like Gat said, textile is a better performing material than leather thus it would be my choice if were to ride below 45 degree but my Carhartt bibs work just fine IF I decided to brave cooler temps but...

Here it's near 40 and I rode with sport leggins, those used for running, a pair of ski socks and on top dress pants (I work at a office) and I'm ok.
Well, i'm only 9mi from home so I don't need more, if I go to ride then I wear the socks, leggins... and denim jeans and if there's a lot of cold a waterproof pant on top of all so it can stop the wind.

p.s. And a good ol' pair of underpants, my b...s need to stay warn and comfortable on the road :)
