Here's my problem: Last summer I installed a new exhaust on my '98 Aero 1100. It was a V&H Longshots set w/rejetting and a K&N filter. It ran like a dream all summer and into the fall, but as the weather got colder, the bike began to start roughly. It sputters, pops and backfires until it warms up and then it's fine. I would attribute it to the cold, but it doesn't always act like that in the cold, with some start-ups being without the pops and backfires. Two sets of mechanics cannot solve this issue, so I'm throwing it out to all of you.

When it happens is the choke (enrichner) applied or off?
How old is your battery?
Battery connections loose?
How are the ground connections under your seat?
Sticking carb float valve maybe? (you know, tap on the bowls when it happens and see if it clears up)

The fuel enrichment circuit (choke) on my ACE does that after it sits for awhile. Put some SeaFoam in the gas tank.

Battery - New
Connections - Tight and uncorroded
Ground Connections - Tight and uncorroded
Sticky Float Bowls - Dunno if I can rap them when it's running. the carbs are tucked under the tank pretty snugly.

I'll try and get some Sea Foam tomorrow and see how that works.
