I'd love to ride around in a black leather jacket all the time if for nothing more than the coolness factor but thinking about Texas in July it doesn't sound completely appealing. What do you guys wear to try and beat the heat?

I've got a Firstgear mesh jacket now and when the liner is out of it I can tolerate the heat for the most part but I look like a giant silver marshmallow with all the reinforced shoulders/elbows....lol

I found that wearing just a tee shirt is comfortable but the wind blows it up. So I also wear a leather vest, and got the extenders so it stays open and holds my shirt in place :D Thats why most bikers wear vests.

I'm still wearing a First Gear mesh jacket that I bought ten years ago.
For me, mesh is still the best compromise when I want more protection than a T-shirt in the hot weather. Aside from adding cooling vests, etc. I don't know what would work much better.

Still, if I'm on a slow cruise on a hot day, I don't mind rolling up the jacket and going with the T-shirt...as long as I apply the sunscreen first. ;)

I'll admit though, that for someone who can get quickly scorched in the sun and whose ancestors must have come from some cold overcast part of the world, I seem to have a greater tolerance for heat than most people. When other riders are bitterly complaining about not being able to breath with a faceshield or frying behind a windshield on a hot day, I'm just enjoying the weather and I don't mind it that much.

Obviously leather anything, not just black during the summer months isn't gonna keep you very cool. For the most part mesh and some textile garments will keep you cooler and offer some protection which is what they are designed to do.

T-shirts, shorts, flip flops ya-da-ya-da-ya. Been there done that.

If you wanna stay really cool during the hot summer months then don't ride. Jump in the cage and crank up the air. Just watch out for those of us on two wheels that don't give a rat's tookus about how hot we are. ;-)
