Took over Dad's 1992 VT1100. I'm sure maintenance was ok but not great. When I start the bike the temp light comes on and fades out and comes back on. Another time it never came on. Something faulty? or serious problem?

I read somewhere that it can be loose exhaust pipes. He also a quite a bit of popping during deceleration. I hear that is also a symptom. I will let you all know what happens.

I have never heard of temp light connected to loose exhaust pipes. More likely its time for a coolant change. Decel popping is typical for these and difficult to reduce. Either get used to it or try adjusting the A/F mixture.

Mechanic said it is a temperature sensor problem. He says honda doesn't sell it anymore. I found a used one on eBay. I'll put it in. We'll see.

Honestly, I'm not very familiar with Shadows yet.

On the 4-cylinder Goldwings there is a fan switch (looks like a sensor but larger) and temp sending unit (smaller, like a sensor should be).

Both are discontinued.
Both have been paralleled through the automotive parts houses though.
I would guess that a similar resolution could be had here with this issue.
